胡伟，1957年生于济南（中国）。
  1982年毕业于中央美术学院留校任教。1996年获东京艺术大学美术博士学位。1997年回母校工作，破格晋升教授，建立并主持“材料表现工作室”。2010年调任中国美术馆副馆长。
  入选国家 “新世纪百千万人才工程***人选”；任全国美展、全国青年美展、北京国际美术双年展、中国中青年美术家海外研修工程、中国美术奖·终身成就奖、文旅部美术专业高级职称评委；享受政府特殊津贴。
现为国家二级教授，博士生导师，中国美协理事、综合材料绘画与美术作品保存修复艺术委员会主任。
Hu Wei was born in 1957 in Shandong, China. He graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 1982, and stayed at school as a teacher afterwards. He received Doctor's Degree of Fine Arts from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1996. In 1997, he went back to work at CAFA, where he was exceptionally promoted to the rank of Professor and established and chaired the “Material and Expression Studio”. In 2010, he was transferred to National Art Museum of China to serve as Deputy Director.

He was honored the “National Candidate for the New Century Hundred Thousand Ten Thousand Talents Project" jointly issued by seven national ministries. He serves as a judge in National Fine Arts Exhibition, National Youth Fine Arts Exhibition, Beijing International Art Biennale, Overseas Study Project of Chinese Young and Middle-aged Artists, China Fine Arts Prize · Lifetime Achievement Award, and for the senior title in fine arts of Ministry of Culture. He is also entitled to special government allowance from the State Council.

At present, he is a second-grade Professor, a doctoral supervisor, a council member of China Artists Association, and the Director of Comprehensive Material Painting and Artwork Conservation and Restoration Art Committee.
